Keep Seniors Independent
More seniors declare their independence, you’re there to help.
Monroe County’s aging population. Our County’s suburbs have seen more than a 20% increase in seniors over the last decade with one out of every ten suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
What happens if assistance is not available? Nursing home expenses can now cost $70,000 every year for a senior. Helping them remain at home, and age with dignity and independence for as long as possible, is critical.
What are you doing about it? For those seniors less able to manage on their own, your support of the United Way’s Community Fund delivers a range of coordinated services—which can be as simple as transportation to a doctor, a home-delivered meal or light housekeeping, to more complex matters involving in-home counseling or protection from neglect or abuse.
- Meals on Wheels is one of several programs that makes sure our community’s frail seniors get their basic needs met. More than 330,000 meals are delivered each year, ensuring seniors not only receive nutritious food, but they also get a daily ‘check-in’ to make sure they are okay.
There’s no one solution, but our seniors benefit when we act as one.
